Community Engagement

Dr. Alexander virtually visited her alma mater, Denver South High School, and shared her path from AP Chemistry to Assistant Professor. She truly enjoyed reconnecting with her AP Chemistry teacher and the next generation of great minds from her hometown!

The Alexander Research Team participated in Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering Senior Tigers Engineering Camp for rising 12th grade students. During the camp, the Alexander Research Team conducted a simulated digestive tract experiment to show how different materials behave under acidic environments. 

Matthew and Austin participated in Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering E-Day. At this event, thousands of high school students come tour the college and learn about the different departments. Matthew and Austin showed off their cool research and performed a cool experiment.

Matthew gave an oral presentation entitled "Multifunctional materials for adsorption of metabolic toxins with a focus on Chronic Kidney Disease" at the annual AIChE Conference in Phoenix, AZ. 

Matthew represented the Alexander Research Team at the Alabama State Elementary Science Olympiad hosted on the campus of Auburn University. Matthew was the event coordinator and made the exam for the Measurement and Metrics Event, 

Dr. Alexander virtually visited the classrooms of 9th grade Falcons during their Biophysics motion section to talk about Slingshot Spiders. She had a great time chatting about Biophysics, spiders, and being an engineer with over 100 students and their awesome instructors!

Dr. Symone Alexander presented at the 2021 AIChE National Conference in Boston, MA. Dr. Alexander gave a oral presentation entitled "Dietary Fiber-Inspired Hydrogels for Removal of Uremic Toxins".  

Dr. Symone Alexander presented at the Spring 2022 American Physical Society (APS) in Chicago, IL. Dr. Alexander gave a oral presentation entitled "Microgels from food waste as a tool to understand microbe interactions with hierarchical fiber networks".

Matthew gave an oral presentation on his research at the 2022 CPAC Summer Seminar Series. This was Matthew's first oral presentation presentation!

Dr. Alexander virtually visited ChemE undergraduates in Dr. Preethi Chandran's class at her alma mater, Howard University. She enjoyed sharing memories about her time at HU and discussing the excitement and challenges of pursuing a career in academia!

Matthew and Austin presented their research to Auburn Alumni at the annual Chemical Engineering Open House.  

Matthew and Austin participated in Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering Graduate Engineering Research Showcase at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. At this event, Matthew and Austin presented their research to 200+ industrial representatives from around the Huntsville area. 

Matthew gave a poster presentation on his research at the 10th Anniversary Graduate Engineering Research Showcase (GERS) hosted by the Council of Engineering Graduate Students (CEGS). Matthew presented his work to faculty, staff, administration, alumni, and industrial representatives. 

Matthew participated in Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering Graduate Engineering Research Showcase at the Research and Innovation Campus in Huntsville, AL. At this event, Matthew presented his research to 200+ industrial representatives from around the Huntsville area.
