#ARTist Luke May interns at Lonza in Tampa, FL during Summer 2023

This summer #ARTist Luke May is working as a process engineering intern at Lonza in Tampa, FL. Lonza’s facilities in Tampa specialize in both phase I-III cGMP manufacturing and non-GMP development for oral solid and inhalant small molecule pharmaceutical products. During his time at Lonza, he will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with pharmaceutical blending, wet and dry granulation, milling, compression, encapsulation, and tablet coating in a manufacturing environment. Further, he will receive training and experience in waste-reduction, process optimization, and error prevention, leading to Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification. He will work on projects ranging from universal data tracking, new equipment installation and quality verification, sample retention optimization, real-time engineering troubleshooting and study, and standardizing process parameters. Working with the process engineers at Lonza will give Luke familiarity in a cGMP environment working on the life changing pharmaceuticals of the near future. His time in the Alexander Research Team has given him a deeper understanding of pre-manufacturing process development, so that he can more seamlessly transition from lab-scale experimentation to the large-scale manufacturing necessary to run clinical trials.
